Stop Making Excuses

  • It isn't the ease of buying firearms in Virginia.
  • It isn't the availability of "ammo clips" on ebay.
  • It isn't his parents.
  • It isn't "our open society".
  • It isn't our "degraded culture".
  • It isn't President Bush.
  • It isn't the Virginia Tech Police Chief, President or Chancellor.
  • It isn't the Media.
  • It isn't Republicans or Democrats or Libertarians.
  • It isn't *mean people* "teasing" him.
  • It isn't "the feminizing of men".

It was Seung-Hui Cho responsible for EVERY ASPECT of what happened on his murderous rampage at VT, in Blacksburg.  He planned it, he carried it out and then killed himself in his cowardice.  In this world, despite what feel good collectivists and/or nascent moral fascists would have you use for justification or excuse, EACH PERSON ir *responsible and accountable* for THEIR OWN ACTIONS.  "Why" doesn't matter.  The media ratings driven drivel "exploring" the killer or his *evil* actions is mental pablum, a waste of time and entirely pointless.

Seung-Hui Cho did it, Seung-Hui Cho is dead.  Let the victims families and friends mourn in peace and get on with life.

At the Water's Edge

An illustration of how politics can (and should) end at the "water's edge

This endorsement by Austin Bay of a self described "progressive" attitude towards the Iraq conflict  really points out the crassness of our political class.  Particularly the posturing "anti-war" donkeycrats and others claiming the "progressive" label.

The most telling question asked by the liberal Bay references is this; "Did I miss the part where it was progressive not to fight medieval religious fascists?".   The same could and should be asked by today's conservatives, particular those who claim libertarian or "classical liberal" attitudes.  *Did I miss the part where it was liberal/libertarian not to fight medieval religious fascists?*

As we have pointed out before, the most vociferous *anti-war progressives* claim the most socialist/collectivist of
liberal political agendas.  Yet, ironically, should the Islamic radical types WIN these same pro-homosexual, pro-
abortion, pro-women's equality people would be the FIRST ONES KILLED (or maimed, imprisoned, tortured etc.) by the fundamentalist and fascistic Islamic radicals.

One simply has to confront the *REAL* driving motivations of the Islamic radical threat to see how liberal *delusional tolerance* threatens the collectivists themselves much more than conservatives and Christian believers.  It is the liberal/socialist's driving ambition for power to control all of us for *our own good* which they believe they grasp better than we unwashed masses.

An interesting parallel in that Islamo-fascists seek to control us all to make us live according to sharia while the
collectivist/leftist activists seek to control us all to make us live according to their secular/humanist religion.
While having the same end game in mind, if you locked one of each type in a room they'd be SURE to kill each other forthwith.

Free Speech Our Way

You'll read and hear of the ACLU and other liberal activist groups screech about *free speech* quite frequently in the media and on the internet.  An poll on the WorldNetDaily site on March 27th 2007 asked about how Sean Penn's ignorant (dishonest?) recent comments should be handled.  The only correct answer is that he SHOULD be able to say what he wants. Let them be hoist on their own petards.

The funny thing about liberal/leftist collectivists though is that their demands for *free speech* only go so far as opinions they agree with.  It is the collectivist socialists that want government to prevent protests at abortion clinics, who want to prevent "day of silence" (an event promoting homosexual acceptance) counter statements.  The leftist donkeycrats are the hecklers and disrupters of public speaking events by people with whom they disagree.  Liberals push the "speech codes" on campuses and excoriate conservative columnists while protecting jihadis and psuedo-communists.

All the while, wailing at the supposed *intolerance* of conservatives and religious traditionalists.  It isn't the libertarians and (most) elephants calling for suppression of speech.  Well, excepting McCain's unconstitutional suppression of campaign/political speech.  No, all the strident calls to prevent or punish people for their speech come from the left.  General Pace is a great example.  The left is screeching for him to "apologize and retract his statements or be fired".  Gee, isn't THAT "tolerant"?

The collectivists adore free speech.  As long as it is free speech THEY approve of.

Do we really care?

Is American Freedom as envisioned and designed by our founders dead or on its way to death?

Helen E. Krieble of Human Events thinks it might be so as she draws comparisons between today's political structure in the U.S. and the British actions that caused our Revolutionary founding.

American apathy is very apparent in our media, in conversations with our youth (many not all) and with a significant portion of adults.  Our voter turn-outs are pitiful.  Excuses abound.  "My vote won't matter", "My vote won't change anything", "I'm too busy", "I don't care" and "It doesn't matter".

Our nation's very prosperity and comfort is a contributor to this.  The Romans had *bread and circuses* to keep their citizenry distracted and apathetic.  We have malls, movies, RVs, clubs, restaurants and credit cards.

The vocal people and those the media chooses to pay attention to are a distinct minority, often representing the more extreme edges of the political spectrum.  If Uncle Sugar keeps the economy prosperous and beguiles the citizens with *free programs* the political class can continue to entrench themselves in power.

Do your own informal interviews with people on current events.  Young, old and in between.  You'll be shocked at the pervasive ignorance of political, social, economic and historical reality.

What are we to do?

Talk Radio and Political TV Value

Do you listen to talk radio or watch the political talk shows on TV?  Thomas Sowell has some interesting observations (http://www.townhall.com/columnists/column.aspx?UrlTitle=talk_shows&ns=ThomasSowell&dt=03/20/2007&page=full&comments=true) on the format.

Do you think talk radio makes a difference socially or politically?  Is it just another form of entertainment?  Does anyone else find many of its practitioners to whiny *talking points* regurgitators?

Why can't the left operate a successful franchise at it?

Why can't the right break in to the supposedly *mainstream* media?  Those who bash Fox as "conservative" must not know that they are staffed by over 70% liberal people.

I find some hosts entertaining and unique.  Bill Bennett, Gas Windbag, Michael Medved and Hugh (Republicrat shill) Hewitt.

I find others whiny and repetitive. Laura Ingraham, Shill Hannity, Mark Levin and Michael Reagan

Some bore me.  G. Liddy and Mike Gallagher

Some are certifiable nut jobs.  Michael Savage and every host on Air(head) America.

The *substitutes* they bring in as they enjoy their 9 weeks of vacation from their 5 or 6 hour a day job are very nearly uniformly whiny, boring, unoriginal and uninteresting.

The political talk shows on TV are quite popular as well.  The "Sunday Shows" are just another spinning platform for the entrenched politicos to hammer softballs tossed by the moderator heads.  Sometimes the analysis can be interesting.  I like the FOX Sunday show as the best of a mediocre breed.

The prime time weekend shows aren't too fascinating to me.  They are driven by their giant ego hosts who most often make no claim to objectivity.  Olberman's show is particularly rabid, unhinged and unseated in reality.  Maybe that's why its so entertaining to the miniscule audience it has.  Most of the political talk shows are so obscure and unwatched they don't even merit mention.  The big lineup (by ratings) ratings consists of a nascent collectivist with primarily conservative personal moral values who thinks government should impose them on everyone.  I call him "O'nazi" as often as not.  He claims "no spin" and to be "independent".  Well a rightist collectivist slant isn't too objective and he doesn't work to hide it either.  He is followed by two (one right one left) talking point playback machines.  I call it the yell at each other show.  Finally comes Greta who has a tabloid crime show with little or nothing to do with politics.

America eats up the echo chamber though.  How about you?

Wrong Directions

John Boehner means well when he says "we can balance the budget without raising taxes".  He hangs his (and republicrat) hat rightly on the "tax relief" we've gotten over the past several years.

The problem isn't just taxes.  Taxes and reductions of them are good campaign fodder and attention getting material for both sides.  What is utterly lacking is Government relief.  The news is full of *proposed new laws*, *programs* and other government boondoggles.  Yes, most of what government does is a boondoggle.  Politicos figure we elected them to *make laws*.  I didn't.  I vote for the people least likely to make laws.  We have enough damn laws.  When are we going to have a government entity that works to repeal onerous unconstitutional and unamerican intrusions in to the life of the citizenry.

No all laws aren't bad the *rule of law* is an important principle.  The fact is there is TOO MUCH government at every level and every year they are finding more and more ways to impose themselves and their ideas of what is correct on the private citizens of this country.

We could do nicely with about 75% less federal government, 50% less State government and 30% (or more depending on jurisdiction) less local government.

Deal with a government bureaucrat.  An outside observer would believe, rightly (according to the bureaucrats), that the citizens serve the government and its drones when the exact opposite is supposed to be the case.

Less government Mr. Boehner!  Who is going to run on that AND accomplish it?

Dear Homosexual

Written in response to Larry Kramer's Open Letter Op-Ed asking "Why do straights hate gays".  Beyond the cultural disease of calling heterosexuals "straight" (doesn't that imply normal or *not bent*?) and homosexuals "gay" (some of the least *happy, carefree* I've seen as far as the activists go).

Dear Larry,

Don't hide behind imagined (wished for?) "hate".  Don't project your wishful assumptions of the emotions of others on to heterosexual (normal) people.

Protesting Minorities

Minorities of Americans protesting social or political conditions have fostered some very positive change in our country throughout our history.  Other minorities have, by their protests, had detrimental effects on our society.

The civil rights movement fostered very positive change (enacted by Republicrat rather than Donkeycrat votes) equalizing the civil and political rights of all people regardless of skin color.  The women's rights movement similarly enfranchised women so that political rights weren't predicated on sex.

The copperhead movement during the civil war had deleterious effects on the war effort (whether you think that effort was right or wrong) and on society in general.  Risking social division in the midst of a horrible civil war.  Vietnam war protests directly resulted in the political defeat of our effort to resist communist aggression and had very bad effects on society, the military and our standing in the world.  The "peace" protestors of today seem to live in a dream world.  Imagining that leaving our commitments made (right or wrong) before fulfilling them would benefit anyone or our country.  What these fools propose would confirm what many suspect (and what "peace activists" seem to want), that the U.S. is a fickle, morally weak, unfaithful and unreliable friend and ally.

Why should he resign?

Alberto Gonzales did nothing wrong.  Federal Prosecuters serve at the will of the President.  Period.  Clinton's mass firing of the Fed Prosecuters wasn't even a blip on the media or amongst donkeycrats.  It is and was a political patronage function.  President's want prosecutors who reflect their point of view on crime and the prosecution thereof.  Doug Powers' analysis explains the points quite nicely.  The 92 (+30) Clinton vs. 8 Bush doesn't even need to be made.  It's the President's perogative to choose who prosecutes violations of the law.  No reason, rhyme or justification to pompous posturing donkeycrats is required.

Vile Partisanship

Strident leftists are unable to separate their policy disagreements with their ignorant assumptions and projections on to and about the person's who's policies they don't agree with.

This is an all to common symptom of partisanship.  It has been displayed throughout our history.  Historically it was much more constrained to political campaigning seasons. From the Rachel Jackson attacks on Andrew to "Ma Ma where's my Pa, Gone to Washington Ha ha ha" attacks on Grover Cleveland the "politics of personal destruction" have been common to electoral campaigns.

Today we see a level of partisanship that feeds off the 24 hour news cycle and the perpetual political campaign.  People transfer political policy disagreement into a hatred that is personal, visceral and in most part groundless.

Before my commenters send the "you're a shill" emails, I am a libertarian who disagrees with ENORMOUS portions of the Bush Administration's policies.

The moonbat left took a lesson from the black helicopter right.  When Clinton was President arch-republicrats wanted to assign him blame for everything since the Crucifixion.  At least Clinton DID commit perjury and sell the Lincoln Bedroom to political contributors.  He was ethically challenged in many ways.  Of course his shortcomings fostered ridiculous claims about him and generated intense ill-will.

This pales in comparison the abject and strident hatred of the wacko-left (and most liberals?).  Bush who is actually a demonstrably good man personally has serious policy deficiencies.  The attacks on him however make the attacks on Clinton look like powderpuff kudos.  The intensity of emotion while communicating their hatred makes the leftists captured by this emotion look quite insane.  Why do they hate the man?  Hate his policies, I can see that.  What has he done to elicit such hatred towards him personally?

It is the left's patent inability to separate policies from people.  It is rooted in their basis in emotion rather than rationality.  Feelings over facts.  If a policy is "bad" then the person formulating the policy MUST be *bad*.  This is a significant challenge to thinking citizens.  These *feeling* people (regarding policy) could be 40% of the electorate.  Projecting your emotions on to public policy is quite irrational.  Projecting on to the people formulating the policy is WORSE than irrational, its dangerous.

Why is it the "give peace a chance" and "wage peace" types who are so often quoting spewing hateful bile?  Listen to some Sheehan quotes.  From whence derives the hatred?  The President was lauded by the people of Enterprise Alabama for his empathy and compassion following their tornado tragedy.  I searched in vain for reports or portrayals of personal interactions with President Bush that were negative or in which the President acted in any *bad* way.

The President could be the most hated public figure in America (I don't think by a majority) yet he is a good principled man with firm values who is honest and plain spoken.  Being wrong doesn't make one evil.  Making poor policy doesn't warrant personal hatred.  It baffles me.

The radical collectivist left *hates* while accusing others of hate.  Is *intolerant* of any view that doesn't fit their collectivist view of tolerance.  They lie, revise and dissemble during their accusations of dishonesty against others.  Most of all they HATE anyone who doesn't share their collectivist emotion driven vision of how things *should be*.  That is why they personalize policy disagreement into visceral personal hatred.
